Mastic, or mastic gum, is a sticky gum that is usually extracted from the stems and trunks of a certain type of evergreen tree called mastic trees or lentiscus, and its scientific name in English is (Pistacia lentiscus).
The mastic is extracted by making small incisions in the bark of the mastic tree in certain months of the year, where the gum begins to come out in the form of drops from the bark to be collected and used after that.
Mastic has a special place in alternative folk medicine in some Mediterranean countries, as it is believed that the potential benefits of mastic may include many health areas, such as: relieving pain and fighting some digestive disorders.
